Genmaicha is a Japanese tea that was originally blended with roasted brown rice and popped rice to make the tea last longer in hard economic times. It has a savory, nutty flavor and is low astringent. Its savory flavor makes it great to cook with. Steep up the tea and save some for later for cooking as the vegetable broth in cooking green bean stir fry and top with pine or almond nuts. Or, use the tea in place of water to make any rice or add to any veggie casserole that has rice or nuts in it.
